Rights and Responsibilities
DESS is a UNICEF Level 1 Rights Respecting School
Rights and Responsibilities are extremely important at DESS for all members of our community: parents, children and staff. Below you will find an overview of the UNICEF articles from the UN Convention of the Rights of a Child.
DESS as a school has their own Rights and Responsibilities, in each class they have an additional classroom charter. The children have made these classroom charters, signing up to their own agreements of their rights and also their responsibilities for their class.
Each term we focus on a different school right within our learning;
Term 1 ‘Right to Feel Safe’ and the ‘Right to Relax and Play’
Term 2 ‘The Right to Respect’
Term 3 ‘The Right to an Education’
The children will look and think about these in day to day scenarios as well as in our PSHE lessons. The articles from the UN Convention of the Rights of a Child are also incorporated into planning and assemblies. We have Rights and Responsibility Ambassadors who are a permanent representative of the DESS Rights and help to ensure this is the core ethos within our school.
